Submissions Now Open!
Posted on 2024-10-22Unfolding was created to provide practical support to people in the field of chaplaincy. It seeks to draw upon the incredible wealth of knowledge and experience of ACSLHE’s diverse membership. This year, we seek to speak to the current moment with the theme: “Change is Inevitable.”
The higher education landscape is undergoing seismic change. Campuses are expanding how they define spiritual care, teams are diversifying and collaborating across divisions, and professional development is growing to support an emphasis on trauma-informed care. At the same time, spiritual care departments are experiencing shrinking budgets, the elimination of diversity and equity initiatives, and an increase in existential dread due to climate change, the role of AI, and economic shifts. Equally destabilizing are the day-to-day changes of new colleagues or new policies. Into this quaking terrain, Chaplains tread, hoping to provide stability and care. Times of change are liminal moments filled with danger, as well as, the potential for growth and renewal.
In this issue, we will ask and answer prophetic questions: Why does change matter? What do we keep, what must we add, and what must be discarded? What tools and techniques help meet the moment? Who or what are chaplains called to embody? How does the work get done?
Submissions will open on September 14th and close on November 9th. Requirements for submissions can be viewed on our website.
